Preparing for the Season

Third year head coach Heather Macy and her team of 11 returners and six newcomers hit the court at Minges Coliseum Monday afternoon for the first official practice of the 2012-13 season.

Macy and her coaching staff of Ollin Dunford, Jill Poe, and Rachel Stockdale held a mid-day practice in which the Pirates ran drills and got a chance to see how their players interacted with one another on the court. The team, which compiled a 12-19 overall record and a 5-11 conference mark last season, looked solid as they were led by four seniors in Britny Edwards, Whitny Edwards, Shala Hodges, and Celeste Stewart.

In addition to the senior leadership, the Pirates will have five juniors, six sophomores and a pair of freshman to round out the squad. Returning to Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum are top scorers in junior Kristine Mial, Hodges and Britny Edwards. The trio combined for 726 points last year and averaged 23.4 points per game.

East Carolina will welcome four transfers to Greenville, N.C., in junior Shawnda Robinson, sophomore Elise Shelton along with junior Abria Trice and sophomore Jayda Payne who will redshirt this season. Also new to the Pirates squad are a pair of freshman in Colleen Marshall and Chanel Green.

Nutrition is Key!

In able to compete at the highest level, athletes must not only train on the court and in the weight room but also at meal time. Optimal performance is gained by eating a variety of healthy foods.

Our team nutritionist took the Pirates in small groups today to one of the local Harris Teeter grocery stores to help them understand how to make smart food choices when they shop. It is said you are what you eat and in athletics, that is a very true statement!

Who is Coach Macy?

We have been telling you for weeks to come spend time this summer with Coach Macy at camp. To get a closer look at our head coach and her philosophies and beliefs, check out the brochure below! If you are on the fence about coming to camp, let us help you make the decision.

Camp is Just One Week Away!

There is still time to join us at Minges Coliseum this summer. Come and let Coach Macy elevate your game!

Reason #2 - There's always a reason to smile. Camp will be fun :)

Reason #3 - Measure everything of significance. Anything that is measured and watched improves. Come get better every day at camp!

Reason #4 - Take things a day at a time. No matter how difficult your situation is, you can get through it if you don't look too far into the future, and focus on the present moment. It's about going to camp to get better NOW!

Reason #5 - Pay attention to your competitors, but pay more attention to what you are doing. Focus on getting better each and every day at camp.

Reason #6 - Focus on what you want to have happen to be successful. You must have a vision of what you want to accomplish at camp!

Reason #7 - Get and stay out of your comfort zone in order to reach success. You will be challenged at camp every day. Rise to the challenge!

Reason #8 - Set goals that motivate you. What are your goals for camp? Whatever they are, make sure they are SMART! (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound).
